Step 2: Working the Base Rows

Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch). Work 1 half double crochet (hdc) in each chain around. Join with a slip stitch to the first hdc. Repeat this round once more to establish a solid bottom border.

Step 3: Introducing the Texture

Now we will start our textured pattern. Chain 1. Work 1 hdc in the next stitch, then work 1 front post double crochet (fpdc) around the post of the stitch directly below in the previous row. Repeat this alternating pattern all the way around. Join with a slip stitch.
