• Yarn: Super Bulky (Size 6) yarn. I used Lion Brand Hometown USA (14 ply equivalent for my friends in the UK and Australia).
• Hook: Size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook for the main body, and a Size H (5.0 mm) hook to weave in your yarn tails.
• Notions: A sturdy sewing needle and three large wooden buttons (approximately 1 inch in diameter).
• Yardage: Around 100 yards of super bulky yarn (one skein of Hometown USA is plenty!).

Crocheting the Main Band

Building the Texture

Your piece should measure approximately 21 inches in length at this stage.

Rows 4–6: Repeat Row 3 three more times to build up the width of the band.

Adding the Buttonhole Band

Row 3 (Buttonholes): Chain 1. Work 1 slip stitch in the same stitch as your starting chain-1. *Chain 2, skip the next 2 stitches, then work 1 slip stitch in each of the next 2 stitches. Repeat from * once more. Chain 2, skip the next 2 stitches, then work 1 slip stitch in the final slip stitch. Turn your work.

Row 4: Chain 1. Work 1 slip stitch in the first slip stitch. Work 1 slip stitch in each chain and each slip stitch across the row. Turn your work. (12 sl st)

Finishing Touches

Fasten off your yarn at the end of Row 4 (which is Row 8 of the entire button band process).

Switch to your smaller H (5.0 mm) hook to make weaving in your yarn tails much easier.
