Spa Day Slipper Sandals
Pamper your feet with these incredibly comfortable, double-soled crochet slipper sandals that bring the luxury of a high-end spa right to your living room.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of sliding your feet into something soft and cozy after a long, tiring day.
We all deserve a little pampering.
Standard store-bought slippers often let us down because they either wear out too quickly or offer absolutely zero support on hard kitchen floors. I used to buy cheap foam slides, but they always ended up flat as pancakes within a month, leaving my arches aching.
That is why I designed these cushioned, double-soled slipper sandals.
By sandwiching a layer of soft batting and stiff plastic canvas between two crocheted soles, we create a sturdy, orthopedic-style footbed. It is a total game-changer for your feet.
Today, I am sharing this complete pattern so you can craft your own custom pair using simple cotton yarn and basic stitches. Grab your favorite beverage, find a cozy spot, and let's make some footwear magic together!

Crocheting the Right Sole (Make 2)

Joining the Soles and Adding the Padding
Place one of your finished crochet soles onto your sheet of quilter's batting. Trace around it and cut out the shape. Trim the batting so it is roughly 1/4 inch smaller than the sole all the way around. Repeat this step to create a second batting insert. If you are using plastic canvas for extra stability, trace and cut it out in exactly the same way.
Now, align one upper sole and one lower sole with their wrong sides facing each other. Make sure you are slip stitching on the right side of the sole (the side that will face up when you wear them) so your joining stitches are visible.
Start slip stitching the two layers together, beginning at the center of the heel. Work your way around until you have joined about half of the sole. Open the two layers like a book and slide the plastic canvas and batting inside. Position the plastic canvas at the very bottom so it sits under the batting and won't rub against your foot.
Continue slip stitching around the remaining edge to completely seal the batting and canvas inside. Fasten off and weave in your ends. Repeat this entire process for the second sandal.

Slip stitch to the corner of the starting foundation chain where there is no yarn tail. Work 1 sc in that corner. Work 4 sc into the first ch-2 space. *Work 5 sc into the next ch-2 space. Repeat from * until only 1 chain loop remains. Work 4 sc in the last ch-2 space, then work 1 sc in the corner. Fasten off, leaving a half-yard tail of yarn for sewing. Weave in all other loose ends except for your two long sewing tails. Repeat this entire process to make your second toe top.
Sewing the Toe Tops to the Soles
On your finished soles, place two stitch markers to guide your placement. For sizes Small and Medium, place the markers exactly 2 inches down from the toe edge. For sizes Large and Extra Large, place them 2.25 inches down from the toe edge.
Thread your yarn needle with the long tail left on the narrower side of one toe top. Position the narrow edge of the toe top directly behind your stitch marker. Ensure the edge of the toe top aligns perfectly with the outer edge of the sole.
Insert your needle straight down through the edge of the toe top and through both layers of the sole. Then, bring the needle back up through the sole layers and the toe top edge. Repeat this stitch a couple of times to securely reinforce the starting corner.
Continue sewing along the edge of the toe top, securing it to the sole. When you reach the end, repeat the reinforcing stitches to make sure it is strong. Tie a couple of secure knots on the underside of the sole, then hide the remaining yarn tail between the sole layers.
Thread the second long tail on the opposite side of the toe top. Align the top piece carefully across the foot, and sew it in place working from the back toward the marker. Knot securely and hide the tails. Repeat these steps for the second slipper.

Common Troubleshooting & Fixes
- Problem: My soles are curling up like little canoes.
Fix: A slight curl is normal and will flatten out once you add the batting and join the layers. However, if they are curling severely, your tension is likely too tight. Try switching to a slightly larger hook for the soles. - Problem: The toe top is too tight across my foot.
Fix: Make sure you chained very loosely on your starting row. If you still find it too snug, use a hook one size larger (like a 4.0 mm) just for the toe top piece. - Problem: I can feel the stiff plastic canvas through the sole.
Fix: Ensure that you placed the plastic canvas underneath the batting layer during assembly. The batting must sit directly on top of the canvas to act as a cushion for your foot. - Problem: My stitch counts are off at the end of a round.
Fix: Remember that the very last stitch of every round on the sole must be worked into the exact same stitch as your starting chain. Use stitch markers to keep track of your first and last stitches.
Care Instructions
To keep your handmade spa sandals looking fresh and clean, hand wash them in cool water with a mild detergent. Gently squeeze out the excess water without wringing or twisting the soles. Reshape them by hand and lay them flat on a dry towel to air dry completely before wearing them again.
