To bring this vision to life, I reached for a classic cotton yarn that provides incredible stitch definition. While cotton isn't always my first choice for large throws, the way these coastal colors play together made it absolutely irresistible.

Materials You'll Need

• Yarn: Sable Sugar 'n Cream (100% Cotton, worsted weight, 200 yards per large skein). You will need 3 skeins of Ecru (Cream), 2 skeins of Beach Glass (Mint), and 2 skeins of Coral Rose (Peach).

Step-by-Step Instructions

Setting the Foundation

With Cream yarn, chain 106.

Row 1: Work (1 dc, ch 2, 1 sc) into the 4th chain from your hook. *Skip the next 2 chains, then work (2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc) into the next chain. Repeat from * all the way to the end of the row. Turn your work. (35 pattern repeats)

Building the Body

Row 2: Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet here and throughout). Work (1 dc, ch 2, 1 sc) into the very first ch-2 space. Work (2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc) into each ch-2 space across the row until only one ch-2 space remains. Work (2 dc, ch 2) into that final ch-2 space, then work 1 sc into the top of the turning chain-3 from the previous row. Turn. (35 pattern repeats)

Working that final single crochet into the top of the turning chain instead of the ch-2 space is the secret to keeping your side edges perfectly straight!

Working the Color Stripes

Row 9: Repeat Row 2 using Mint yarn. Join Peach yarn at the end of this row.

Adding the Finishing Edge

Finishing Row: Continuing with Cream yarn, chain 1. Work 1 sc in the very first stitch. Work a sc2tog across the next ch-2 space and the next stitch. *Work 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, then work a sc2tog across the next ch-2 space and the next stitch. Repeat from * all the way to the end of the row. Work 1 sc into the top of the beginning chain-3. Fasten off your yarn.

Common Troubleshooting & Fixes

• Problem: My side edges are starting to look wavy or uneven.
  Fix: Make sure you are working the final single crochet of Row 2 into the top of the beginning chain-3, rather than inside the chain-2 space. This keeps the edges perfectly straight.
• Problem: The blanket feels too stiff or dense.
  Fix: Cotton yarn can sometimes have a firm hand. Try switching to a larger hook size (like 5.5mm) to loosen up your tension and improve the drape.
• Problem: I am running out of yarn before finishing a color block.
  Fix: Check your gauge. If your stitches are looser than the pattern specifies, you will use more yarn. Adjust your hook size down if needed.
• Problem: My starting chain is much tighter than the rest of the blanket.
  Fix: Use a hook one size larger just for your foundation chain, then switch back to your H/5.00mm hook for Row 1.

Care Instructions

Since this blanket is made from 100% cotton, it is highly durable and machine washable. Wash it on a gentle cycle with cold water to preserve the vibrant colors. Lay it flat to dry or tumble dry on low heat to keep the stitches looking their absolute best.
